What's in a name?

It's being highly speculated that when Brangelina pops, they will name their two identical twin girls.............

Amelie Jane and Island (no, i'm not kidding) Marcheline.

Talk about two tongue-twisters. What are they going to call Island when she's old enough to respond? Isle?! Come here Isle....your dinner's ready Isle. Who am I kidding? They have maids and 3 nanny's per child to deal with remembering each one of their kid's bizarre names.

Have fun getting tormented in school: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and lil Amelie & Island. But then again, you know they will probably go to a fabulous boarding school somewhere with Apple, Moses, Kingston and Coco that requires an odd name for admission.

All this baby talk has got me thinking....maybe I'll name my first born Ocean. Thoughts??

Classic over trendy is a safe bet for summer swimwear

Fourth published article:
http://alligator.org/articles/2008/05/29/the_avenue/fashion/080529_swimwear.txt

This summer, beaches all over the world will feature all kinds of swimsuits: itsy–bitsy ones, tankini versions and yes, even the cut–away. The cut–away suit, also known as the “monokini,” is a trend that I will undoubtedly avoid this summer.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy being fashionable by the pool, but having one strip of fabric connecting the top of my suit to the bottom just seems like a bad tan line waiting to happen.

My mom is all about this season’s monokini, and I laughed at her when she told me this proudly.
She reprimanded me for being “so out of the fashion loop” this summer and told me to check out Target’s Web site.
Sure enough, there they were – in their very own category and everything. And much to my dismay, some of them were actually cute.

But in the end, if you want to look fashionable this summer without trying too hard, a trend that will never go out of style is your classic all–black and all–white bikinis.

I think every girl should own one of each because they are the epitome of beach chic. Throw on a pair of this season’s colored Ray–Bans in white or red and you’re ready for any tropical destination.

Girls love him, boys want to be him

The edited version of "bouncer confessions," and my third publication in 2 weeks. I hope I keep staying on top of my game this summer and have a stack of clips when I go up to NY for interviews.

If you don't want your latest hair 'do to be a fashion don't, then read on....

Just finished my second masterpiece...this one's getting published on Thursday. Enjoy!

Rihanna cut hers short. Katie Holmes and her daughter sport matching looks, and Lauren Conrad wore one in just about every episode of “The Hills” last season. You guessed it girls, I am talking about this summer’s fiercest hair styles-- the pixie cut, the bi-level bob and the side french braid.

Rihanna showed she’s a risk taker by chopping her locks for her recent album cover, “Good Girl Gone Bad.” She loved it so much that she trimmed her hair even shorter for a boyish-yet-feminine cut that’s ruling the runway this season. To master this dramatic look, your stylist should go as short as possible in the back and leave a longer section of hair around the front of your face. With this edgy cut, add a metallic head-band for a touch of girliness.

For those who think Rihanna’s style is too dramatic, Katie Holmes’ bi-level bob might be a safer choice for you. Tell your stylist to cut your hair just below the jaw line, add soft layers for texture and to keep the side you part your hair on slightly longer than the other. This style also looks great with bangs.

If you love your long locks, but need a fresh, easy look, then try Lauren Conrad’s side braid. Simply part your hair on the side, gather three small sections and french braid the hair around the frame of your face. Fasten it with a bobby pin and you’re ready for any occasion. The braid looks great with super straight locks, but you can also dress it up by putting the remainder of your hair in a low bun or teased pony-tail. (LC can be seen around Hollywood in all 3 different styles).

These are just a few of this season’s hottest hair trends so go out and find the one that best fits your personality. And as Paris Hilton says, “The only rule is don’t be boring.”

Raise your voice

My dad is a lot like me--quiet and reserved when you first get to know him, but once you open him up he is a total goof-ball. And, when he talks, I listen. So, today when he got home from work and out of the blue told me that he can really hear my 'voice' in my writing, I felt elated. No matter what I'm writing about, I don't ever want to lose my voice--it's too important to me. My dad will never know how much that one, simple comment meant. I can only hope, in the near future, that an editor will think I am talented enough to be heard.

Watch out world: Em is officially a credible journalist.

I DID IT--My first ever published masterpiece! There is nothing like seeing your name in print! It's like the coolest feeling in the world (well, at least for me). I've been trying to get published for four years and I finally achieved my goal, and they want me on for next week, too. Also, I was contacted by the features editor of another publication here in town and I'm 90% positive my "bouncer confessions" article is getting published soon. What started out as an awful week has really turned around.

Your opinion means a lot to me. So, send me any fun, fashion ideas you want to see for next week! Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!

I'm getting 'carried' away

15 days until MAY 30th....(for those of you who live under a rock, 5/30 marks the U.S.'s premiere of The Sex and the City Movie). I'm so excited, I can hardly stand it. My friend, Liz is worried that the production company is showing too many advertisements for the movie and wasting all the good parts on commercials. I don't care. It's not going to hinder me from spending $8.00+ on a ticket and popcorn. In fact, the previews are just getting me more anxious to see it.

It premiered in London this past weekend, and I've already read all of the reviews and the "don't click here if you don't want to read spoilers" link.

SPEAKING OF: Don't read on if you're the kind of person who doesn't like to peek at their Christmas presents before Christmas (unfortunaetly i am not one of those people)

Charlotte gets pregnant.

Big leaves Carrie at the altar (duh....could have guessed that one).

No one dies (contrary to all the rumors circulating the internet).

Steve cheats on Miranda.

&

Samantha & Smith move to a house on the beach in L.A.

Of course the writers scripted it this way so there can be a sequel if needs be. (My fingers are sure crossed). I know now that seeing this movie is going to be such a tease because I'm going to want more, more, more. Watching four years of sequels is taking its toll on me. I'm starting to recite whole scenes between the girls, but no matter what--whenever I'm feeling down, happy, stressed, sad or basically any emotion, it's comforting to know that I always have Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha on TBS.

Summer Trends

Just sent this into my school's paper (fingers are crossed for publication). Let me know what you guys think!

This season, models marched down runways blinding onlookers, the pages of May's Instyle look more like colors you would find in a candy shop than in a fashion magazine, and even Forever 21's latest frocks are inspired by Vitamin C. It's official, girls, summer is here, and I'm sure Posh Spice would agree: bold colors are going to be so very "MAJOR."

Think: the hottest pinks, the most vibrant yellows, the boldest blues, and the juiciest oranges. These palettes were featured in Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior and Badgley Mischka's Spring/Summer 2008 collections, to name a few. Everything from shorts, flowing dresses, skinny jeans and sky-high stilettos look brilliant in these hues. And for the extra courageous, mixing a combination of these colors as a top and bottom combo will prove you've mastered Versace's latest collection.

Even Essie's new line of nail polishes promise to "shake up your summer with six hot shades." My personal favorites are 'Risky Business' (a fire engine red) and 'Movers and Shakers' (an eye-catching pink).

Makeup products are also getting on board with the latest trends this season. M.A.C has paired with fashion designing duo, Heatherette, (best known for experimenting with outrageous colors and everything glitter), to create a line of lipsticks, glosses and shadows that Paris Hilton and any girly girl would die for.

This summer's clothes, accessories and makeup trends call for the bravest of fashionista's. So, if you want to be the hottest girl spotted on University Avenue, you can't be afraid to take risks with bold colors this season.

I have reverted back to childhood....Day 3

I sleep more hours than I am awake in the day. I can only eat mushy foods. I can't drink out of a straw. I get cranky, and I have trouble making coherent sentences. It's official, I feel like a baby. I guess it doesn't help either that I have a mom who set up a whole tray next to my bed that is constantly replenished with ice-cold water and fresca every hour, and she diligently gives me my pain medication every 4 hours. I could not ask for a better nurse!

I'm telling you if you ever have to go through this kind of pain or any kind of surgery, make sure you have a patient, understanding person devoted to you for at least 4 days. (I'm hoping by tomorrow I will be able to get out of bed on my own and get my own mint chocolate chip ice cream).

However, getting a milkshake hand delivered to my bed-side from one of my besties is not too shabby, either. Thank you Hales...it was delicious! :)

Mom....more ICE pleaseeeee: Day 2

Hey guys--I'm hanging in there. I've been reading Mary Higgins Clark's latest mystery novel and sleeping a lot (which I probably needed after this crazy semester). My goal is to feel better by Friday afternoon so I can attend "Happy Hour" at the local Irish Pub. I currently have on this really sweet diaper-looking contraption stuffed with ice wrapped around my head. I'm using it to make the swelling in my cheeks subside (I could seriously give a chip-munk a run for it's money). I would include a picture, but I don't want to scare anyone.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Cinco De Mayo and didn't drink too much tequila :) Wish me luck on my recovery so I can enjoy a margarita a few days late!!

P.S. Watch Tila Tequila tonight because one of the contestants, George, went to my high school and I'm rooting for him.

P.S.S. Did anyone else see Gossip Girl last night? (one of the minor characters, who has had a recurring role this season ALSO went to my high school....I guess PHS bred some talent)

Spoiler: Don't read on if you are planning on catching GG online later:

How do you feel about Serena's brother coming out of the closet? Did you expect it?
Is it just me or is the plot-line of the show getting raunchier and raunchier?

I can't feel my lips....Day 1

Happy Cinco De Mayo!! While all of you lucky duck's are probably enjoying margarita's pool-side, I'm stuck in bed in pain (but I did get new pajama's with flamingo's and pool's on them so at least I can pretend I am anywhere but here). I just had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed about an hour ago. What usually is a routine procedure, I of course turned into a life and death situation. (If you didn't already know, Nervous Nelly is my nick-name....I inherited it from my mother). So, the doctor comes in and asks if I have any questions. ("Uh yah, about a million," I was thinking). Will I wake up? What if I'm allergic to the anthesthesia? How long will the surgery last? Will it hurt? And finally, what the HELL is that large needle used for over there on the counter? "It's just to administer the antesthesia," he calmly replied. "I promise when you wake up it won't be sticking out of your fore-head or anything." (Oh great, I thought.) I called one of my bf's right before the surgery to calm me down, which she did. We laughed and talked, and before I knew it my heart wasn't pumping out of my chest anymore.

I was relaxed and it was time for Nervous Nelly Shelly (my mom) to leave. The doctor, who could pass for a McDreamy, tied a rubberband tight around my arm, found a vein to stick the needle in, and the last thing I remember him saying is: "You might start to feel a little woozy." The room started spinning a little, and I was out. Thirty-five minutes later and I was finished. My mom and I picked up a Frosty from Wendy's on the ride home, and I am anxiously waiting to eat it so I can take my first pain pill. My mouth is starting to get really sore.

Oldies but goodies

You know those friends who you may not see for over a year, but when you reunite it's like no time has passed at all? I feel so lucky to have those. My sorority sisters and friends I met in college have known me for four years, and I'm blessed to have found a group of strong women I can forever call my best friends, and future bridesmaids.

However, no one knows me better than the girls I grew up with in Tampa, and the girls I met my sophomore year in high school. They may not know it, but those women forever changed my life. I have noticed a pattern that when I make new friends, they always in someway remind me of them. I guess, in a friend, I want to feel as comfortable as I do with my friends back home. I have felt a sort of nostalgia these last few days, because I know it is the last time in our lives when we will be cities apart. We soon will be states and worlds apart. But no matter what, I know I have friends for life and if I'm lucky, just a plane ride away....

To my besties (the women who helped shape who I am today):
Thank you for being the best friends in the world.
I love you girls with all my heart and can't wait to see what the future has in store for all of us.
