My top red carpet moments

I haven't done a fashion post in a while, so I thought I would share with you guys some of my favorite red carpet looks worn by a few of my favorite stylistas.

If you couldn't tell, Beyonce's frock that I put front and center is my most coveted. I would so wear that in white to my wedding, with a pink bow of course. And, so sorry to Cameron Diaz who's head got chopped off by Eva Mendes. I'm still working on the whole photo editing thing.

Enjoy and let me know what you guys think!

Recap: Marley & Me

Ok, so Marley and Me was good, but not quite what I expected. I haven't read the book so I went into the movie with zero expectations. I went with my family and we were hoping to see a funny, care free holiday flick. Let's just say that by the last ten minutes of the movie, my mom and I were collecting all of the crumpled napkins from the cup-holders that we could to pat the water works streaming from our eyes. Without giving too much away (although I'm sure most of you can guess what happens) it was quite the tear jerker.

I happened to enjoy it, except for the few times my mom leaned over to ask what time it was. The flick was two hours and my brother, mom and dad all agreed that it could have been much shorter and still achieved the same point. I'm a sucker for most movies involving any kind of cute animal so I guess I am bias. (I caught myself saying 'aww' out loud at least five times when Marley ran across the screen). Anyway, if you're looking for a movie which takes you through the ups and downs of life and exemplifies the whole meaning of family, then I would recommend Marley & Me. If not, just go see it to enjoy the Miami scenery. I'm going to miss Florida, but definitely not the humidity. 80 degrees in December....really? How is that even possible?

Have yourself a merry little Christmas.

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays everyone!!! I hope you guys are having a healthy & happy day with your families. I'm only two days away from the big move so I am trying to savor every minute I have left at home.

I'm really going to miss my family, but I know they won't be strangers to Austin. After all, Texas is where my parents shared their first few years and had my brother and I. Alright, I'm going to go enjoy the day and we're going to see Marley & Me this afternoon. Expect a full report.

XOXO,
EMZ

"Let me buy you a drank..."

I hear that sentence about a thousand times a night when I'm out with Alisha. I'm so excited because it's Friday, and MY BFF COMES IN TOWN TODAY!!!! ETA is 6:20 PM, and I will be at the airport waiting for her! Next stop: the bar! hah I can't wait to see her, and I can only imagine the kind of trouble we are going to get into tonight.

(Picture's of us at XS in Gainesville mixing our own tunes, because who has to request anyway).

Give me the green light, I'm ready to go right now.

When I walked into the local watering hole last night, I thought I was being punk'd and actually walking into my five-year high school reunion. Who knew so many people go out on a Wednesday night and so many of them still live in Tampa, or should I say "South" Tampa? (gag me).

It was surreal to see most of the people I have not laid eyes on in years, and it's crazy that no matter how much time passes, the same groups still hang out. I don't really know if that's a good or bad thing, but all in all, I think it's quite interesting. Last night was good for me because I got to see a lot of people that I had no idea if I would ever see again, and it got me all the more excited to start this next great adventure in my life.

Also, I'm starting to realize that Tampa night-life is nothing compared to what I am use to. I definitely need a change. I will miss all of my Tampa girls, but like me, their futures are uncertain and who knows where they will be in the next year or so. It's been nice to be home for a few weeks and really enjoy time with my family before the big move, and I am so grateful to have grown up in such a beautiful place. But, life's a changing, and I'm so ready for it. Bring it on.

Emz Knows Best.

I can't even tell you how many times I have seen The Hogan Clan at my mall in Tampa. Terry Bollea, aka Hulk, grew up here, and he now has a house about 30 minutes away in Clearwater. I guess they have a little place in their heart for International Mall, (I know I do), because they always seem to come to my neck of the woods to shop.

I've seen Brooke and Linda shopping at Neiman Marcus and Bebe on several occasions, and just a few months ago, I saw Linda and her 19-year-old boy toy walking hand in hand out of Nordstrom's shoe department. My mom and I were grabbing coffee at the little cafe, and I spotted them and grabbed her arm so we could follow them. She was annoyed, because believe it or not, my own mother is not phased by celebrities. Well, I guess except for Derek Jeter or maybe George Clooney, but I just had to get a picture to send into perez! I emailed him right when I got home, but sadly he didn't post it. I'm sure he gets about a million "spotted" e-mails a day, and honestly, the Hogans are barely pushing the D-List (even though Linda is dating someone 30 years her junior) so I guess I can understand why a Jen Aniston/John Mayer post might get top billing.

Anyway, back to today: I was walking by Abercrombie & Fitch upstairs, when I spotted this tall figure standing behind a movie bill-board talking loudly on his cell phone. It looked like he was trying to conceal himself, but he was dressed head to toe in orange. I'm talkin' the whole nine yards, people: shirt, shoes, bandana and come to think of it, even his skin matched his whole ensemble. I can imagine it would be pretty hard to hide the fact that you are "The Hulk", and it was funny to watch people's reactions when they walked by him and realized who it was.

I find it comforting to know that you can spot celebrities, even if they're not A-listers, in good ol' Tampa Bay.
(I hear Sandra Bullock and Matthew McConaughey both have homes in Austin. Watch out!)

A touch of caramel, a pinch of honey and a tad bit of gold

So, it's official, my mom and I have divorced our hair-stylist, Candy, whom we have been going to for 15+ years. I love the man, but he makes you wait and wait and wait, lets you know if you have gained weight, and charges a ludicrous amount of money for a haircut/color that I was never fully content with, until..... TODAY!

My mom was recommended Julie from family friends, and I had my appointment with her today. I was a little nervous going to a new person, and as usual, I brought in a pic of a celeb for inspiration. (This visit was Jenn Anniston). Julie did an amazing job, and I am so happy with how the final look came out. She even blew-dry my hair, which is such a treat for me. I always went home with wet hair from Candy's because he charged an extra $30 to dry.

What do you guys think?

One Long Island comin' right up.....

Laura's home from her first semester of Law School, which means one thing: we are celebrating tonight!! I am so excited for our girls night out in Channelside! We're going to drink out of fish-bowls (literally) and dance our little hearts out to every rap song that suits our fancy. I'm so excited, but must take a baby nap before I meet up with the girls. Pictures to follow.....

(pic's of me and L.D. last year sippin' away on our spiked iced-tea...sharing is caring!) :)

All I want for Christmas is, well, either one of these...

Maybe it was all the talk about Kevin Connolly in my last post or that the weather outside is getting "frightful," but I'm feeling a little frisky and decided to share with you all my top three Hollywood crushes (Kev, Channing Tatum & Gerard Butler). Leave me yours in the comment section!

And, as for now, just sit back and enjoy.....

"Is your house on fire, Clark?" "No, Aunt Bethany, those are the Christmas lights."

My little brother got home from college last night for the holiday break and suggested that we watch a movie as a family that, gasp, we all agreed on. Let me just say, my dad is so thankful to have Justin home because now the clicker/remote control is no longer in my mom and I's hands. The nights of watching Dancing with the Stars and Desperate Housewives after dinner are long gone, well at least for another two weeks while J is home.

Magically, Christmas Vacation was on last night and we all screamed in unison, "Lets watch it!" It definitely brings the LOLz!!

Also, a little side-note for all of you Entourage fans: Clark's wife now plays Babs, Ari's partner, in the show. Thanks to J, Entourage is one of my new fave shows, and I can't wait for season six!! I have a baby-crush on "E" aka Kevin Connolly. Alright, I'm rambling now. Hope you guys have a fab weekend!!

So glad my Exes DON'T live in Texas :)

As some of you all may know, Liz and I have decided to move to Austin, TX the day after Christmas! We're driving up with our moms, and I somehow have to cram my entire life into Herby (yes, my car has a name). I'm a little worried that I won't be able to fit everything I want, but I'm not bringing any furniture with me, just clothes/shoes/accessories/a few household items for our new kitchen/and a small TV for my room. (hah I'll let you guys know how it all fits at a closer date).

We leave two weeks from tomorrow, and I'm not gunna lie, I am a little nervous to move to a brand-new city and start a new life, but I am so thankful I have Liz with me. And, hey, if I can survive New York alone for 2 1/2 months, I'm pretty sure I can handle anything.

When we were there a couple weeks ago, we found the perfect apartment. It's two blocks away from 6th street (Austin's "Bourbon St."), we have a walking path to the flag-ship Whole Foods, Starbucks is right around the corner, and Anthropologie is across the street. Needless to say, we are set. As far as the apartment is concerned, we have the most gorgeous pool area, a roof-top terrace where we can have a glass of wine after work, and a fountain/fire-pit area downstairs that is perfect for reading/writing. It kind of reminds me of where LC and Heidi lived in the first season of The Hills, minus all the drama.

Ok, seriously is it Dec. 26th yet? I'm so excited and as always, I will keep you guys updated on this next great adventure!! Also, I have included a pic for your viewing pleasure, so if we like you, feel free to come visit us anytime!! :)

XX,
Emz

This has "Emz" written all over it...

Ok, so when that fateful day arrives that I'm married and decide to have a baby, I just might have to deliver my first-born in Taiwan. "Say what?" Well, they have just opened a (gasp) maternity ward dedicated to my favorite furry feline: Miss Hello Kitty! Seriously, is this a sign or what? I really hope the States decide to steal this idea, because then I might actually look forward to giving birth. I wonder if the hospital offers pink epidurals?

"From blankets and birth certificates to cots and uniforms worn by staff, every aspect of the Hello Kitty hospital is emblazoned with the feline motif.
Patients are welcomed by a statue of Hello Kitty dressed in a doctor's uniform, before travelling in a Hello Kitty elevator to a pink examination room with Hello Kitty posters on the wall.
The hospital's director Tsai Tsung-chi opened the £2m (T$100m) hospital in his hometown after obtaining authorisation from the fictitious cat's Japanese parent company Sanrio Co Ltd.
Describing the objectives of the hospital, he said: "I wish that everyone who comes here, mothers who suffer while giving birth and children who suffer from an illness, can get medical care while seeing these kitties and bring a smile to their faces, helping forget about discomfort and recover faster," according to www.telegraph.co.uk

It's great to be a Florida Gator!!

I don't really have much else to say today then................GOOOOO GATORS!!! BEAT BAMA!

"Even though Alabama is unbeaten and ranked higher, Florida goes into the game as a commanding 10-point favorite. The high-powered Gators are the nation's third highest-scoring team (46.3 points a game), and their 11 victories have been by an average of 37.3 points," according to seattlepi.com

The last laugh.

I know this is fairly old news, but I just lovesss it!
Team Jenn!
Also, can't wait to see "Marley & Me." I cried during the trailer, so I know it's gunna be a winner! :)

It's the most wonderful time of the year.

My dad came home last night from work in a particularly good mood. It's that time of the year when we all look back on the year we've had and start to appreciate all of the blessings around us. We're healthy, happy and at the end of the day, that's really all that matters.

His request last night was that we watch "It's A Wonderful Life" after dinner. We own the movie and for some reason I never have watched it with my mom and dad even though they watch it every Christmas. It's black and white and set in the 1920's, and I guess I just figured I wouldn't be able to relate. Let's just say I ate my words because by the end of the movie, my dad looked over and tears were literally flooding my face.

There's a great quote that I just loved when the main character, George Bailey asks the girl he likes, Mary:
"What do you want, Mary? Do you want the moon? If you want it, I'll throw a lasso around it and pull it down for you."

I mean really, who talks like that anymore?

Another White Christmas

(Me & Shel-Bel last Christmas Eve)

The white Christmas tree has officially been busted out of storage for the second year in a row. Having a "faux" tree last year made my mom's holiday season so much easier because my brother, dad and I did not get sick. We did miss the smell of pine with our trees of christmases-past, and picking out which one we wanted from the local lot, but I'll tell ya, the cough and runny nose that came with it was kind of a downer year after year.

As much as my brother and I complained about not having the real thing, our new tree has really grown on me. It's so sparkly and definitely makes a statement, which as you all know, I'm all about. It's fun every now and then to break traditions and start new ones. It spices things up. Happy Holidays!

"Why are you smiling?" "Because smiling's my favorite."

I can not believe it's already December, and I have yet to watch my all-time favorite holiday movie: Elf! This is one of those classics that I can watch with my family just about everyday leading up to Christmas.

I guess there's something oddly humorous about seeing Will Ferrell squeeze his giant limbs into a skin-tight leotard, and yet still fooling me year after year that he really is just an innocent, slightly 'special' elf who loves spreading holiday cheer.

So, tell me, what are your favorite holiday classics?

Her life may be a 'Circus', but she's the ring-leader.

Happy Birthday Brit!!!

Did anyone see her performance(s) this morning on Good Morning America? I have to say, over the years, she has become a better walker than dancer. She walks to her marks on the dance floor (well actually for this album, i guess it's considered a circus rink) and just kind of throws her arms and head back. But I guess you could argue that this is all for the sole purpose of flaunting those rock-hard ab's, which I must admit are back in action. (I hope my body bounces back like that after two kids, or that I can afford a good trainer.)

Anyway, on this monumental "don't call it a come-back" day, I can only reflect on where my lil Brit was just a year ago. Case in point: take a deeper look at the picture I posted. Her hair was yellow, not blonde. After the infamous "buzz cut", she replaced her flowing locks with sewn-in pieces of what could be horse hair. Her party guests included Sam Lufti and her creepy friend/pseudo cousin, and her two little angels were no where in sight.

However, on GMA this morning her family took over the first two rows of her sold-out concert, and the likes of Hugh Jackman, Reese Witherspoon and Taylor Swift wished her a happy birthday. She recently sat down with Glamour Magazine Writer, James Patrick Herman, and admitted: “I don’t like going out. I hate clubs. I hate being around too many people. I love my home and staying in bed and watching Dancing With the Stars or reading a Danielle Steel novel. I’m kind of boring." I have a feeling home-girl's life is never "boring." It's amazing what a year can do to a person. I'm rooting for you girl friend! Oh, and go out and buy her CD today. I've previewed most of the songs, and can't wait to learn all the words!

What was she thinking?

One of my fave fashion mavens has left me speechless, and not in a good way. I wish we could call this a Carrie Bradshaw fashion mishap, but this IS in fact Sarah Jessica Parker (gasp) at an event for Chanel. The things that really leave me speechless are her tights. I've been staring at this picture for 10 minutes trying to figure out why her legs look two-toned, and why she thought it would ever be a good idea to step onto the red carpet looking like that? And those shoes, don't even get me started on the shoes.....

Just some food for thought...

hmmm I wonder who Newsweek favors? And furthermore, is that a halo shining over Obama, or just the lighting?

She's baaaaaaaaaack!!!!

I just got goosebumps from this video:
http://www.mtv.com/overdrive/?id=1596738&vid=287977

I have waited for this day ever since she took a razor to her long, flowing, blonde extensions. Brit Brit is FINALLY back, you guys and better than ever. I just can't believe I have to wait until November 30th to watch the entire 90 minute special.

Ok girls on 3 say "PRUNE!"

Yes, instead of cheese (not like they eat it anyway) the Olsens say 'Prune' before a photo-op to obtain the "i'm too cool and pretty" to smile shot. I've tried it on several occasions, but I just end up looking like a weird fish.

Anyway, the real reason I am posting about my fave troll-tastic twins is because (gasp) they actually look presentable in this picture. Is it possible the root-exposed hair, baggy clothes, and homeless-esque look is finally out? They have so much potential, and I think they are making a bold statement here. And, OMG is it just me or does MK (the one on the left) look like she actually might be smirking a little? I think she likes her new look, and so do I. You go girls.

Whitney flees The Hills for New York City.

MTV confirmed that Whitney Port of The Hills will be starring in her own spin-off show called, The City. Whit scored a coveted job that a million girls would kill for with Diane Von Furstenberg. While I am excited to see her new show, especially because she moved to my neck of the woods, I am more pumped to hear what her opening theme song will be. As much as I love The Hills, I really am getting sick of Natasha Bedingfield singing in my ear each week that "today is where your book begins...." It's been what, five seasons now? Can't MTV (ahem, Music Television) spice it up a bit?

Pretty sure if Emz had her own reality show, her theme song would be "GLAMOROUS" by Fergie.

Twin Celebuspawns=Double trouble.

Everyone will be talking about this issue of W, which features a candid interview and photos taken by Brad of Angie breast-feeding little Knox and Viv. It hits stands October 21st. Is it me or does Brangelina just LOVE rubbing it in everyone's faces how "happy" they are? Poor Jen. My heart really does go out for her.

Attributed from PerezHilton.com:
"In a new interview with German Vanity Fair, Angie attributes their super powers to her super partner, Brad Pitt. When the family had to make recent flying arrangements to accommodate the New York premiere of Angelina's new movie, The Changeling, Brad told the mother of six to go back to bed and let him do all the work.

What a stand up guy!

When it comes to their new twins, Angelina admits that while it's double the work, it's also double the pleasure.

"When you look at them, it's like they were made for each other," she explains. "They smile at each other, sniff each other, touch each other. It's just beautiful."

Wait, is she talking about babies or dogs?

She says that even at these very early stages, the twins have developed distinct personalities, with Knox taking a quiet backseat to Vivienne's louder, more aggressive personality.

Sounds like an accurate mix of the parents!"

GAG ME!

Who will be Auf'd tonight?

Who's excited for the two-part finale of Project Runway starting tonight? (I know Amy Mo is!)

I so tried to sneak into this show at Bryant Park while I was there, but it had a very strict guest list, and you had to sign confidentiality agreements. However, that same day, the collections made their way online, which of course I snuck a peek at. And, now the final six designer's collections are on Bravotv.com, which you can check out here: (if you can't curb your craving until NEXT wednesday) http://www.bravotv.com/Project_Runway/season/5/photos/gallery.php?e=final_collections

My money is on LeAnne. The picture above is her creation from last week's "Nature" episode. If you can't tell, her inspiration was lavender. I would definitely wear this frock on a red carpet, paired with a fierce tan. See you all on the runway! Auf Wiedersehen.

An oldie, but goodie.

move it like a gypsy
stop, woah, back it up,
now let me see your hips swing

Hey, Liz....remember those nights where we would blast Savage on repeat every night before we went out?? You could usually find me in my white, towel dress and you in your pink bathrobe and every time this JAM came on your computer, we would meet in the middle of the hallway and sing as loud as we could into our blow-dryers?? Well, just think, we could have MANY more if you moved up here and were my NY roomie!!

Hehe...i know this a shameless ploy for everyone to see, but I thought it might remind you of the good 'ol days and how much fun we always have together!! Just a thought....

Shop to the Top!

OMG!!! How amazing does THIS look?!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jml_MOEPA-s

Here comes the bride....

I got the Wedding Channel assignment!!!!! Woo. My advisor from the temp agency called and said my interview went really well, and they would be happy to have me. Not sure of all the details yet, but I will be helping them with their Fall Couture show at the Intercontinental Hotel. It's a five day assignment so I will be making lots of that cash money, yo! Haha ok, not really but yay for networking!!! Keep y'all posted!

One of those nights that will go down in history, but that's NY for ya.

This weekend started off with a BANG. Alisha, one of my besties since Freshman year at UF, came in on the China Town bus at 8 PM. We came back to my cousins, got ready for the night and met up with Bevin (one of my fave sorority sisters) at her friends apartment, had a couple drinks and headed out for the night.

I had never met some of her friends before, but they took us to one of their favorite places--Tenjune. "Ever heard of it?" They asked. "Um, are you kidding? I ALWAYS read about Tenjune in Us Weekly." I was so anxious to get there and had an imaginary pen and paper in my hand the whole night documenting every little detail. We waited outside the velvet rope for their buddy to let us in. The bouncer looked Bevin, Alisha and I up and down for a few seconds each, and I guess we passed his test, because before we knew it the rope was unhooked and we were in.

We danced the night away, until we were literally the last people on the dance floor, and ended the night eating room service at the Waldorf Astoria in plush, white bathrobes while sipping champagne and overlooking Park Avenue. I'm telling you I only have nights like this with Alisha. It was an episode right out of The Hills, too bad we didn't have a camera crew following us around all night.

(Oh yah AND the Gators won!!!!! The pic above is me and Lish decked out in orange & blue circa Nov. '07 for UF/FSU Gameday)

Just be nice.

So, I have a complete and new found respect for all those involved in the restaurant industry. I got a little "gourmet" taste of what life is like for well, a dish washer. I started temping and so far have been sent on two assignments. My advisor called me last week and gave me three options of where I would like to work. One was for a Conde Nast publication to serve as a receptionist for three days, the other was to help in Golf Digest's editorial department and the third was to assist in Gourmet Magazine's test kitchen.

Those of you who know me by now, should know which one I picked. Test kitchen...Gourmet food...Top Chefs, sounded like the perfect combo to me. I showed up at 4 Times Square (yes, Gourmet is also a part of Conde Nast....2 assignments and both in the "infamous" building, I considered myself a lucky girl) ready to help chop veggies and taste all of the wonderful creations being prepared for future recipes. I met Gourmet's kitchen manager on the 4th floor, who told me as politely as possible that my main duty for the next couple days would be to, you guessed it.....wash dishes.

Surprisingly, I enjoyed myself. Each chef had their own mini kitchen and whenever their sinks were full of dishes, I had to clean them. Every chef was unique in their personality and cooking styles, and every single one was genuinely kind and wanted to know "my story." How long had I been in New York? What was I looking to do? Where did I live? etc.

I tasted an array of foods and each one was more delicious than the last. I washed dishes, but I was respected for it. Friday was my last day and before each chef left, they thanked me for helping out and some even told me to forward my resume on to them so they could try and help in anyway they could. Before I left, I thanked everyone for being so NICE and for including me in such a wonderful work environment. It was a refreshing change, to say the least.

Current Mood: Shattered but not broken.

Hey everyone

Wow, I can't believe it's been two months since my last post. In case you all didn't know, I am finally here: New York, that is. I am celebrating, or rather reflecting upon the past 4 weeks and some days I have spent here. I think that's what I will use this post as, an up to the date re-cap on the life and times of me.

So I graduated August 9th and spent a couple weeks at home just relaxing and de-toxing from my four years spent away at college. I started my new diet plan, worked out everyday and spent some quality time with my family. I almost felt like I was back in high school again. Dinner was ready at 7:30ish every night, my parents and I battled each other at Jeopardy, and I went to bed around 10. I think, actually, I know my body, mind and soul appreciated those few weeks. I know I needed it.

However, after the first week, I started to get a little antsy. Is this really the life I wanted? Sleeping until noon and on the occasional nights I went out, running into the same people from my high school who have not moved on and still call "South" Tampa their home. Please, gag me. I was feeling claustrophobic, smothered and I had to get out of there. My NY BFF, like an angel sent from God, told me about an internship he heard about at Seventh House PR in New York for Fashion Week. What the hell, I thought, it's worth a try. I signed onto their web site, emailed the Event Coordinator and heard back from her within a day. "When are you available for an interview?" she asked. "Anytime that is best for you," I replied. This was a Monday afternoon, she wanted me there Wednesday. "Sure, no problem." I wrote back.

My mom and I went into complete and utter panic mode. We rushed to International Mall and Westshore to find the "perfect" interview outfit and a few other items fabulous enough for New York. We got everything we needed, packed my suitcase, (yes, just one) and I was out the door at 9 AM on Wednesday, August 27th. I got to 7th House by 3:45 for my appointment at 4 and got the gig within 10 minutes of the interview. The catch, oh yes there's always a catch, was that I would be reporting to Mandie. Little, naive, Florida girl....I had no clue who this infamous "Mandie" was. All I know, is that when introduced around the office as "Mandie's new intern," I would get the sympathetic look and finally the forced "Oh, wonderful!". "I hope you last longer than the last one, and just remember, whatever she says to you are just words. Don't EVER let her see you cry." They chanted. Let's just say, I was SUPER pumped to report to Mandie the next morning. I didn't sleep a wink, especially after googling her.

The Seventh House position was a two-week gig and honestly, I don't think I could have handled much more. After walking away from our last show at Bryant Park, I really questioned whether or not I wanted this life in fashion for myself. Was I always going to have this sick feeling in my stomach that I could get yelled at a moment's notice or constantly worry that I was disappointing someone? I went home, had a glass of wine, put my battered feet up, and slept for a solid 10 hours. I think working 14+ hour days, having one meal a day-if I was lucky, and the feeling of utter exhaustion started to take a toll on me. For a week, I did nothing.

I finally had time to go to lunch and happy hours with friends, and explore the city. However, after a few days I realized that I needed to find a job and money fast. This city will do that to you. I spent every waking hour on job sites applying to everything and anything that I was qualified for. I had one interview at a magazine (that will remain nameless) that I had never heard of and have yet to hear anything back from. After a string of disappointing emails and sometimes hearing nothing back, I decided to start working at a staffing agency that specializes in placing their temps in the fashion, entertainment and editorial world.

My friend Melissa encouraged me to apply, and I am glad I did. I interviewed last Monday and had my first assignment on Friday at Allure Magazine. I got paid (something I had yet to experience in NY) to stuff envelopes and organize their beauty closet. Are you kidding me? It was my dream come true. After I had meticulously organized the array of hair, bath and body products on the shelves, my supervisor told me to fill a bag. Come again? "No, seriously," she said, " Take whatever you want." You wouldn't believe some of the things I walked away with. Prada perfume, Urban Decay eye-liner, the latest skin care products, Mark make-up, lip gloss in every shade, stationary....just to name a few.

So maybe, there is such a thing as "nice people" in the fashion industry. It's amazing how one lovely person can change your whole perception of a world you didn't think you belonged in. I guess, maybe I don't have to change after all. I have noticed one difference, though.....My skin is a little thicker now. For the time being, I am still searching for my dream job and apartment, living on my cousin's couch and trying to soak in this experience for all it is worth. I know one day I will look back and appreciate the struggle I went through to get to where I am. I just keep reminding myself that it's a part of life. Everyone has to fight long and hard to get what they want for themselves. As much as I want to fly home and be with my mom, who I know will make everything better, I can't and I won't. I want a better life for myself, and luckily I have a wonderful support system who encourages me everyday.

I guess I have been putting off this post for a while, because I thought that when I finally made it to New York, it would mean all of my hopes and dreams came true. I would have the perfect job, the perfect apartment and go to all the fabulous parties. But, the fact is, I don't and that's ok. I know I will be a stronger person for it.

I promise I won't wait this long to blog again. I started to miss the release that writing gives me, and I don't ever want to lose my voice. Catch up with you guys soon.

New York Love,
Emz

My last "Alligator" article....

Wardrobe staples make fashion fun and stress–free
By EMILIE WILLIAMS, Avenue Writer

To my avid readers and fashionistas: I have loved the opportunity to share my fashion tips with you each week, and I hope you gained some valuable insight into this summer’s fashions. This will be my last article because in just a few short days I will be graduating and embarking on the next chapter in my life. Before I go, I want to share with you some of my key fashion staples. Let’s call it Em’s Guide to Summer Style.

First and foremost, you absolutely have to have at least one little black dress and little white dress in your closet, especially for living in Florida. I have acquired several of each in recent years and have an LBD for dressier occasions. I have one for the fall months and a casual one for summer.

I only wear my LWDs in the spring and summer months, and I always look for ones that transition well from day to night.

My second all–time favorite summer item is a pair of cork wedges. I wear them with almost every outfit, and I love the way the tan shoe blends with my tan skin. It makes your legs look so much longer, and the natural color complements a variety of outfits flawlessly. For those of you with fairer skin, a cork wedge may be too dark for your skin tone. But, have no fear; a bright espadrille is a perfect alternative.

When I am not in class, I spend most of my summer days in a bathing suit and cover up. I usually buy most of my bikinis at Target because they are inexpensive and come in a variety of prints and colors.

However, I will spend a little more on a great beach cover–up. With the right fabric, a cover–up can last for years and can be worn as a dress for a quick run to the grocery store or to class.

When summer rolls around, I love experimenting with a fresh, new summer scent. This year, I am in love with Tom Ford’s Black Orchid perfume. It is a sweet scent with hints of jasmine and gardenia.

So far I have only worn it on special occasions, and each time I do, at least one person will compliment me on how delicious I smell. It is a powerful, sensual scent for the sophisticated woman.

"I wish I had invented blue jeans. They have expression, modesty, sex appeal, simplicity--all I hope for in my clothes." Yves Saint Laurent

So I recently got an e-mail from Forever 21 (yes, i signed up for their newsletter) that colored denim is so in right now. The trend was confirmed this past week on E News where the likes of Heidi Klum, Posh and Rihanna were seen in bright yellow, hot pink and faded blue versions. Go out and snatch a pair before summer is over!

"Let's all go to the movies...."

Ok, so I saw two movies this weekend while I was home, The Dark Knight & Mamma Mia. The Dark Knight was, well.....DARK! The whole time I was anxious, nervous and just wanted the darn thing to end. Two and a half hours was way too long to find out that Batman was turning himself in as the villain to be the ultimate hero in the end, or whatever. I know, right? Doesn't make sense to me either, but appareantly it is the premise of the ENTIRE film. I will give props to my Heath, though. He did an incredible job, so much so that I forgot the Joker was him half an hour into the movie. It was definitely a plus because his character was sick, twisted, demented and had me searching under my bed and in my closet before I could rest my head (somewhat) peacefully on my pink pillow. To me, paying $10 for a movie and checking my cell phone every 20 minutes for it to be over, is not my cup of tea.

Luckily, my movie-going experience was restored ten-fold when I saw Mamma Mia this afternoon with my mom. It was incredible! The music, choreograpy, & costumes.....I could go on and on forever. I strongly encourage all of you to see it. The entire theatre was dancing a little in their seats. It really made me just want to pack up August 9th and go back to Greece and find my Manos!!!! I have hope I will meet him in New York, though and then we can set sail into the sunset and live on Skopelos in a white house with bright, royal-blue shutters. (I'll keep y'all posted on that....)

Find the perfect hat to fit your Summer Style

EMILIE WILLIAMS
Avenue Writer

With temperatures hitting the 90s most days this summer, a hat might just become your new best friend. This season, hats are not just meant to be worn poolside. They can add a touch of style to any ensemble and, most importantly, protect your face from the summer’s harsh rays.

On a recent trip to the Hamptons, Lindsay Lohan and close gal pal Samantha Ronson were spotted wearing this summer’s “it” hat, the fedora. Ronson donned a white version with a black ribbon while Lohan sported the same one in black for a night out on the town. Lohan paired her fedora with a glitzy party dress, but Ronson kept it casual with jeans and a button–down T–shirt, thus proving that this style can be dressed up or down.

However, fashion experts say fedoras look best on petite girls.

“If you’ve got a small frame, choosing a hat that doesn’t overwhelm can be a daunting task. The key is to hunt down hats with small brims and crowns,” says wnetwork.com.

For those of you who only wear a hat when necessary, the floppy hat might be for you. Not only does it look great with a bikini, but it can also hide your tangled beach ‘do. Forever 21 has cute options in straw and various bright colors, all for less than $20.

The only problem with big, floppy hats is that they may look adorable on your best friend but not on you. Make sure you try on the hat in the store to ensure it complements your bone structure and build before making a purchase.

Floppy hats look best on girls with long or oval face shapes. If you have a round face the fedora would be more suitable.

As with every accessory this summer, wear bold colors. To add color, pick a neutral hat with a bright ribbon. Or you can add your own. Simply tie a ribbon around the base of a floppy hat.

Follow my tips when picking your perfect summer hat, and not only will you be fashionable, but you’ll be smart for protecting your skin.
