"I wish I had invented blue jeans. They have expression, modesty, sex appeal, simplicity--all I hope for in my clothes." Yves Saint Laurent

So I recently got an e-mail from Forever 21 (yes, i signed up for their newsletter) that colored denim is so in right now. The trend was confirmed this past week on E News where the likes of Heidi Klum, Posh and Rihanna were seen in bright yellow, hot pink and faded blue versions. Go out and snatch a pair before summer is over!

"Let's all go to the movies...."

Ok, so I saw two movies this weekend while I was home, The Dark Knight & Mamma Mia. The Dark Knight was, well.....DARK! The whole time I was anxious, nervous and just wanted the darn thing to end. Two and a half hours was way too long to find out that Batman was turning himself in as the villain to be the ultimate hero in the end, or whatever. I know, right? Doesn't make sense to me either, but appareantly it is the premise of the ENTIRE film. I will give props to my Heath, though. He did an incredible job, so much so that I forgot the Joker was him half an hour into the movie. It was definitely a plus because his character was sick, twisted, demented and had me searching under my bed and in my closet before I could rest my head (somewhat) peacefully on my pink pillow. To me, paying $10 for a movie and checking my cell phone every 20 minutes for it to be over, is not my cup of tea.

Luckily, my movie-going experience was restored ten-fold when I saw Mamma Mia this afternoon with my mom. It was incredible! The music, choreograpy, & costumes.....I could go on and on forever. I strongly encourage all of you to see it. The entire theatre was dancing a little in their seats. It really made me just want to pack up August 9th and go back to Greece and find my Manos!!!! I have hope I will meet him in New York, though and then we can set sail into the sunset and live on Skopelos in a white house with bright, royal-blue shutters. (I'll keep y'all posted on that....)

Find the perfect hat to fit your Summer Style

EMILIE WILLIAMS
Avenue Writer

With temperatures hitting the 90s most days this summer, a hat might just become your new best friend. This season, hats are not just meant to be worn poolside. They can add a touch of style to any ensemble and, most importantly, protect your face from the summer’s harsh rays.

On a recent trip to the Hamptons, Lindsay Lohan and close gal pal Samantha Ronson were spotted wearing this summer’s “it” hat, the fedora. Ronson donned a white version with a black ribbon while Lohan sported the same one in black for a night out on the town. Lohan paired her fedora with a glitzy party dress, but Ronson kept it casual with jeans and a button–down T–shirt, thus proving that this style can be dressed up or down.

However, fashion experts say fedoras look best on petite girls.

“If you’ve got a small frame, choosing a hat that doesn’t overwhelm can be a daunting task. The key is to hunt down hats with small brims and crowns,” says wnetwork.com.

For those of you who only wear a hat when necessary, the floppy hat might be for you. Not only does it look great with a bikini, but it can also hide your tangled beach ‘do. Forever 21 has cute options in straw and various bright colors, all for less than $20.

The only problem with big, floppy hats is that they may look adorable on your best friend but not on you. Make sure you try on the hat in the store to ensure it complements your bone structure and build before making a purchase.

Floppy hats look best on girls with long or oval face shapes. If you have a round face the fedora would be more suitable.

As with every accessory this summer, wear bold colors. To add color, pick a neutral hat with a bright ribbon. Or you can add your own. Simply tie a ribbon around the base of a floppy hat.

Follow my tips when picking your perfect summer hat, and not only will you be fashionable, but you’ll be smart for protecting your skin.

The rest is still unwritten....

Ok so I'm totally taking inspiration for today's post from itsmeseanny.com. I know he won't mind, and HELLO--free publicity! When I get up to the Big Apple, we need to team up and create one stellar blog for all of our reader's enjoyment. Seriously, though, if you haven't already checked out my NY BFF's blog....you need to. He really has been putting me to shame lately with his numerous posts in a day, but then again, he does have an I-Phone. Me, bitter? No! Not at all....

Right, now back to basics. Have you guys seen the trailer for The Hills new season starting 8/18?? OMG!!!! Sooo intense, so many tears, boys, and enough dramz to keep me tuned in every week! I think LC could win an Emmy for her performance this season. The preview even shows her in a heart-felt convo with Audrina, while her black mascara seeps down her cheeks. I mean, you really can't make this stuff up!

Whoever said orange was the new pink was seriously disturbed.

Did I call it or did I call it?? Bailey has some large, pink stilletos to fill but I think she can do it. I hope she breaks a leg on Wednesday night for her big opening at the Palace Theatre.

(That's me and my mom this summer in NY after seeing L.B. During Intermission, she surprised me and bought me that pink plush purse I am holding. There was even a little stuffed Bruiser inside. Adorable!)

Like O. M. G!!! Season Finale of L.B. is tonight!!!!!!!!!

hmmmm....i wonder who's going to win?! (cough, cough Bailey--far left) Can't wait to dish about the obvious results at 11 P.M. See you then!

Emz

Experiment with daring nail polish shades this season

I took inspiration for my article this week from my previous nail-polish post which was one of my most popular! Enjoy:

"Week after week, you have heard me preach about bold colors for summer, and this season's nail shades are no different. Think of the colors you would use to highlight bold terms in your textbook. For those of you who like to keep the bright colors on your toes only, you are in luck, because white nail polishes are also in for summer.

I never thought I would be a supporter of white on my nails, but when applied correctly and with the perfect tan, it looks fabulous. My discovery occurred while I was interning in New York this past summer. Everyone in my office looked like they had Wite-Out over their nails.

At first I was skeptical, but I was told that in order to be considered a true New Yorker, I had to try their summer go-to item: white nail polish.

There are many whites to choose from, but I am a fan of the ones with a bit of a pink undertone that look a little iridescent in the bottle. Essie's "Heavenly Harp" and "Imported Champagne" are a perfect back-from-a-weekend-on-South-Beach feel.

One of my all-time favorites is OPI's "Italian Love Affair." Every time I swipe it across my nails, I am instantly reminded of being on vacation because it is the shade I wear every Spring Break. I love this color because it goes with any outfit and is the most perfect shade of baby pink in the entire world. I believe every girl should own a bottle, if not 10.

Essie's new neon collection features four of the hottest shades this summer: yellow, orange, purple and pink. With names like "Short Shorts" and "Mini Shorts," you can't help but feel ready for the beach.

I love all of the shades equally, but some of them should not be worn together. For instance, you don't want to be the girl with bright orange toes and highlighter yellow nails. However, a purple and pink combination can be quite flattering.

I'm all about taking fashion risks, but in moderation. Happy shade hunting!"

"You're either in, or you're OUT!"

Raise your hand if you're excited for the season premiere of Project Runway tonight?? Haha I am already parked in front of the couch anxiously awaiting the clock (err my cell-phone) to strike 9 P.M.

I can't wait for Tim Gunn's infamous "Make it Work, designers!" and Heidi's stern, yet remorseful "Auf Wiedershen!" when a contestant is eliminated. I just hope at least one of this season's designers compares to Christian's fierceness. MEOW!

Guest judges this season include Natalie Portman, Rachel Zoe, RuPaul, Diane Von Furstenberg, Brooke Shields, Cynthia Rowley & LL Cool J (hollaaa!)

D- List Celebs: they really ARE just like us.

My fave Kardashian sis is headed to the Pokey for not completing her community service requirements following her DUI arrest. She's so busy, though, it's understandable. I mean between attending star-studded events with her famous sis, dancing on tables, managing Dash, and filming a reality show, it's no wonder she didn't have time to lend her support for those less fortunate. Poor girl. On the bright side, I bet her orange jumpsuit will complement her skin tone perfectly.

And the winner is....

Is it just me or did you think that the judges of this year's Miss Universe pageant could not have been a more random duo? Jerry Springer and Scary Spice, really?? Maybe they were the only people from the D List who picked up their phones.

Congrats to Miss Venezuela, this year's crowned beauty. She was my fave and I loved her evening gown!! Also, my sincerest condolences go out to Miss United States for falling flat on her bum. Yikes....you can expect to see that clip played over and over again this week on The Soup.

Newest Celebrity Spawn....

Did you feel the Earth shake this morning? Brangelina FINALLY popped out their twins--a boy and a girl. And much to my dismay, they did not name them Amelie & Island (these names have been circulating around the internet for weeks). The names are....Drum roll please....

Knox Leon

&

Vivienne Marcheline

Congrats to the happy parents. I'm sure Jennifer Anniston is at Le Petite Tresor right now in L.A. putting gift baskets together! I kid, I kid, but at least she has John Mayer to wake up to every morning.....at least for a few more weeks.

As we go on, we remember....

(Bathroom Graffiti)

So one of my roommates, Hannah, (who is also graduating in August) and I went to order our cap and gowns yesterday and it was such a surreal feeling. I told Banana, "doesn't it seem like just yesterday we graduated from high school?" These past four years literally flew by.

I'm starting to make a list of all the spots on campus where I want to get a
picture, and I'll even find myself getting nostalgic when I am out at the bar with my friends. I mean when will I ever be sipping on a $1 rum & diet again and find inspirational, profound quotes written in Sharpie on the bathroom stall?

Damn, I'm really gunna miss this town....

Look Divine......Rain OR Shine

Pretty sure this is my 8th published article......and one of my faves!

"Summer B is officially under way and unfortunately, so are the afternoon thunderstorms.

For those of you who are new to UF, you will quickly realize that a downpour almost always occurs around 3 p.m.

And much to your dismay, you will probably be on campus.

However, even with a 40 percent chance of rain this week, my tips for staying dry will help you stay 100 percent chic, rain or shine.

First things first, you must invest in an umbrella if you want to stay dry during Florida summers.

When I was a freshman, I sported a classic orange and blue one that I purchased in the Reitz Union. However, I quickly learned that umbrellas are as much a fashion staple on campus as are the bags you carry them in.

I did some research and found some affordable yet fashionable options. My favorites are J.Crew’s animal prints paired with a bright–colored handle, Vera Bradley’s vibrant designs with a matching case and Juicy Couture’s pink umbrellas with rhinestones.

These umbrellas may be a little more expensive than what you’d find at department stores, but quality should also be a top priority.

Investing in a stylish and durable umbrella will be worth it. We’ve all seen abandoned, broken umbrellas tossed into the gutters, and you don’t want to be caught in a storm fending off the rain with your notebook.

There are also stylish ways to keep your feet dry. Your Rainbow sandals won’t cut it here.

My all–time favorite accessory for a dreary day is a pair of classic rain boots. And who doesn’t love an excuse to wear them?

I am that girl who wears rain boots to class if there’s a cloud in the sky, and I think they are suitable for any age.

Target has dozens of boots in every color and print imaginable, and they are reasonably priced under $20.

You can try a bold animal print or pastel polka dots to complement or liven up your outfit.

DKNY also has a variety of boots to choose from, including my favorite pair: hot pink.

It’s also a good idea to invest in a windbreaker. If a poncho or rain coat from L.L. Bean isn’t your style, consider trying one of UF’s popular fashion staples.

You will see a lot of girls on campus donning jackets from Campus Outfitters right here in Gainesville.

You can personalize your jacket with any color you desire, and you can even embroider your name on it if you like.

It’s a great investment because you can make it a signature piece for about $50. Also, if you’re in a campus organization, discounts are available for large orders.

The odds are you will get stuck in at least one torrential downpour this summer, but if you follow my advice, at least you will look cute."

Prada is SOO last season

Oh. Em. Gee. Need I say more?? My library already has a waiting list of over 100 eager fans waiting to get their hands on Weisberger's latest chick-lit masterpiece. I may just have to suck it up and buy the darn thing. I'm sure it will be worth it!

Also, I just finished "The Undomestic Goddess," by Sophie Kinsella (the author of The Shopaholic series, which is coming to theatres in 2009). It was a delightful story, and I definitely recommend it for an easy, breezy pool-side read.

Just a few of my new favorite things.....

Things I'm craving at the moment:

Essie's new Neon Collection!! I want this little set and I would even paint my nails highlighter yellow. How fetch!

Wayfarers in PINK! Graduation present, anyone?? Haha don't you worry I've already sent my mom this post in an e-mail form!

Feel free to find me anything else you know I might lust after. Graduation is August 9th :)

You know you love me,
XOXO

"Cuz there aint no doubt I love this land, God Bless the USA"

How much do you love your country? I am so proud to be an American! I hope everyone had a happy & healthy July 4th! I had a great weekend, although, I wish I got to set off some fireworks or at least sparklers. Oh well, there's always next year.....in NYC! :)

Sadly, I will not be partaking in any Sunday Funday activities today. Lots of studying (2 tests tomorrow....eek!), and I have to write my article for next week. I think I'm going to go with a fun way to stay fashionable even in the summer rain-storms (ex: anoraks, umbrellas and my fave--rain boots). I'll let you guys know how it turns out, and tomorrow's post is all about my new fave nail polishes for summer. Stay tuned.

Kisses & Hugs.

My article this week :)

Go bold with accessories

Think pink, do blue, be seen in green and say hello to yellow. This summer’s shoes and purses are all about vibrant colors.

Flip-flops are a staple for summer in Florida, and they’re the perfect way to add color to your wardrobe. My favorite brand is the Brazilian line, Havaianas. They come in a variety of bright styles and match every outfit.

This summer’s wedges are anything but neutral. If you really want an accessory to pop, wear an all-white top and bottom with this season’s lime green wedge.

To complement your footwear, put away your large hobo bags and stock up on this season’s “it” clutches.

According to redcarpetvictim.com, “The best part about moving away from the over sized bag to the tiny clutch is that you can once again match your shoes to your purse. It’s really all about the accessory this season and bringing two great ones together in one big statement says more than the rest of the outfit.”

Now that you know what to wear, where do you get it? Jessica Simpson’s spring/summer collection features shoes and bags in every bold color imaginable, and they’re actually fashionable. Don’t believe me? Check out her collection at your nearest Dillard’s.

Be daring this summer. If we can wear white after Labor Day, why not brighten it up with bold accessories?

Happy Hump Day!

All I want for Christmas is............

CHANNING TATUM!!!

My goodness, I seriously have a kindergarten crush on C.T. I blush whenever I see him in interviews and even put myself through an Amanda Bynes movie, "She's The Man," just to stare into those gorgeous, seer into your soul, ocean-blue eyes for 90 minutes. I would seriously give anything to just have one date with him. No, scrap that, one dance with him--Step Up style. Now, that would be HOT!

Santa, can you hear me??

Do you want a shot at love? No thanks, I'm good.

Go back to Singapore: Thien Thanh Thi Nguyen (AKA TILA TEQUILA). You got what you deserved hun. Why would you pick the confused bi-sexual who kissed a girl one night at a bar and thought she might be a lesbian over the guy who was head OVER heels in love for you and was probably the nicest guy who will ever fall for you? And then you had the audacity to cry into the camera asking 'Why did this happen to me?' when Kristi denied the key to your heart. You wanna know why? Because, you deserved it T.T! And guess what........your shot at love has ended! Go back to MySpace and cyber with Tom.

I swear if MTV pulls the whole "third time's the charm" nonsense and offers her another chance at love, I'm boycotting the network. Alright, I'm done venting....for now....

Omigod, omigod you guys!!!!

So, duh whoever said orange was the new pink was seriously disturbed and whoever decided to make a reality show out of Legally Blonde: The Musical is a genius! Love it, love it, love it!!! I don't think I can say that enough :)

I saw the play this summer when I was in New York and fell in love with Laura Bell Bundy as Elle Woods. Don't get me wrong, I was very skeptical to like any other Elle than Reese Witherspoon because she did a FANTASTIC job. But, Laura Bell delivered and I was rooting for her the whole time she was on stage, and hoped she got the internship from Professor Cunningham to prove Warner wrong. (hah like I didn't know that was going to happen).

As far as the TV show is concerned, I am reluctant of the potential girls competing for Laura Bell's role on Broadway. It's obvious to me that Bailey is going to win. My mom saw the beginning credits of the first episode and called it too. She has the persona, the voice, the moves and OMG the hair to play the next Elle. Only problem, I think she is a biaaaaaatch!

You know emz, I don't "cuss" on here often. But, I think this time is necessary. Bailey is the prettiest one and the most competitive, but to me, she does not exemplify the characteristics of Elle Woods. She seems more like a mean girl than a girl who would befriend her manicurist and spend Christmas alone with her and help get her dog back from her low-life ex-husband. As the judges told Bailey: "You're a little too Disney, tone it down." My take on this is that she needs to stop being fake and maybe then she will be a little more believable as Elle Woods.

I'm rooting for Lauren because I can tell she really wants it and genuinely cares about others. To me, she personifies the true spirit of Elle Woods.
